Psychoeducators work closely with their clients to provide them with tools and strategies to better understand and manage their behaviour, emotions and thoughts. Through a thorough assessment and a personalized intervention plan, Psychoeducators can help their clients achieve their developmental and mental health goals.

Who are psychoeducators?

Psychoeducators have a post graduate degree in psychoeducation and they intervene with people of all ages experiencing adjustment difficulties. Only members of the l'Ordre des psychoéducateurs et psychoéducatrices du Québec may use the title of psychoeducator, as well as the abbreviation Ps. Ed.

Psychoeducators meet people with adjustment difficulties in their environments. They are mainly found in schools, in the health and social services network, in community organizations and in private practice.

What is the psychoeducational approach?

  • Be present in the daily life of the person who is experiencing adjustment difficulties;
  • Consider the strengths of the person and those of the people around them, as well as their interactions;
  • Analyze the whole situation and help the client recognize their needs;
  • Intervene in a way adapted to the realities of the person and involving those around him;
  • Accompany the client towards a return to balance, according to their objectives.
